This seasonal beverage is only available at Trader Joe’s around the holiday times – so it has that cachet of limited appeal. While Trader Joe’s does have another ginger beer available year-round, this one has the distinction of being a TRIPLE ginger brew. What’s been tripled? Was it brewed three times? No – Trader Joe’s says it’s triple the ginger.
The bottle conveys a premium look, with its thick hefty glass and fancy locking flip cap. It’s available in a standard 750ml size. The flip cap open with a satisfying pop – this is one bottle trying very hard to impress.
This brew has a very fruity citrus scent – and looking at the ingredient list, you can see why… pineapple, lemon juice, and lime juice are all represented here. It’s suggesting you might not have a lemon or lime wedge on hand and you want to drink it anyway. I would call the look of it as cloudy… it doesn’t have chunks of ginger swimming around in it – rather it’s more of a dose of powder (it might be ginger, it might be spices). Triple Ginger Brew has a bit of bite initially – not so much from the gentle carbonation – but rather from the ginger and spices. The bite is immediately tempered by the sweetness and fruity flavors though. These non-ginger qualities take away from the complexity of the spices quite a bit. Nevertheless, if you’re OK with those attributes in balance with each other, this is a very drinkable ginger beer.
