When we talk about dry wines, we’re talking about less residual sugars – less sweet. In the case of Dry Sparkling Ginger, the name of the brand is Dry. It is also less sweet. The Founder and CEO of Dry, Sharelle Klaus, refers to her sparkling beverages as lightly sweet and culinary-inspired.
The bottle is downright festive, emblazoned like a champagne bottle. With cheery bubbles and a gold-foiled topper, it looks right at place alongside your celebration wines and bubblys. The color is clear throughout without any ginger bits floating around like so many ginger brews. It is definitely well carbonated, nearing soft drink levels of bubbles. It has a strong, sweet scent, very reminiscent of Barritts Bermuda – but the scent was deceiving!
True to its brand, Dry Sparkling Ginger is dry. At 11g of sugar, it is one of the less sugary ginger drinks we have. The taste is consistent, but not complex. It smells like ginger more than it taste like ginger. Because of its consistent nature and low flavor profile, it would be ideal as a base for a mixer. The label extols itself as being “Bold, Spicy, Full”. I don’t detect too much ‘Bold’ or ‘Spicy’, but it is definitely full… the carbonation is on point!
There is not much mystique to Dry Sparkling Ginger. It promised dry and it gave me dry. After so many sweet, sugary brews, this one came off as a bit of a surprise. I think I’ll double-check those mix recipes and see where this one can take us.
